ABOUT THE ARTIST

I am self-taught and inspired to make sculpture from a place of intuition and feeling. Almost every piece I create is somewhat autobiographical.   I explore the symbiotic relationship between pain and vulnerability with power and beauty as it exists in the human condition, more specifically, in the female experience. In my early 20s, I began to make pieces from forest wood and copper.  Since that time I’ve been working with found objects, scraps, junk shop finds, and things I find along the side of the road, behind abandoned buildings or in the woods and riverbeds.  Working in physical therapy and fitness for decades kept me deeply in tune with anatomy,  biology and somatic expression.  Working with objects, I translate experience and emotion.  I combine elements into dynamic abstractions that represent conflict and challenge, appreciation and beauty, trauma and triumph-my personal human condition and experience.  One that I hope others can relate to and connect with.

As well as being personal, my work speaks to equality, feminism and conservation.  Basic human/Earth rights should be a given and not a political issue.  Equal rights and saving our planet would be possible if we could all agree that we are one and the same-all born from the same Mother Earth.  Much of the emotion in my work comes from the desire for people to love and not hurt each other, and to understand each other's pain (and love) as their own. 

* Sometimes I make pretty, shiny mobiles that simply express the truth of gratitude, joy and abundance!

The Wabi Sabi aesthetic most accurately defines my work, my process and what I am attracted to in life and art.  Wabi Sabi-the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete; a beauty of things modest and humble; of things unconventional.
